For the past half-decade, iii Points Music Festival has taken over Miami during a weekend in October. However, earlier in May, the promoters of the festival announced that they would be foregoing their fall event, instead opting to move the festival to February. The announcement was a surprise, but logistically made sense—the past two years saw the festival navigate difficulties with extreme weather, with Hurricane Matthew threatening the festival in 2016 and Hurricane Irma causing delays in production last year.Given the new date, iii Points has pulled out all the stops to get fans on board for their new February date. Today, the festival, which is slated for February 15th through 17th, has announced its initial lineup, and it’s pulled one of its strongest lineups to date, with a massive array of nationally touring, high-profile artists booked for the weekend. Considered an “alternative” festival in the EDM-heavy landscape of Miami, this year, the festival is offering a hugely diverse lineup including headliners SZA, Tyler the Creator, Erykah Badu, and A$AP Rocky, in addition to the likes of James Blake, Beach House, Herbie Hancock, Blood Orange, the Internet, and Virtual Self. You can check out the full lineup of 2019’s iii Points Festival below. The University of Wisconsin women’s hockey team kicks off their first home game of the 2016-17 season against the Ohio State University Buckeyes Friday night at 6 p.m.The Badgers (2-0-0, 2-0-0 WCHA) have already started the season off with a bang, earning a weekend sweep over St. Cloud State University (0-2-0, 0-2-0 WCHA) during their opening weekend of play. The Badgers outscored the Huskies 6-0 in the first game of the season, and solidified the series sweep with a 4-2 win the second night. The Buckeyes (2-0-0, 0-0-0 WCHA) are also off to a great start to their season, with sophomore starting goaltender Kassidy Sauve earning the Western Collegiate Hockey Association’s Defensive Player of the Week. Sauve earned this honor after allowing only one of 67 shot attempts to hit the back of her net (.985 save percentage) in OSU’s opening weekend. The Badgers have had a resoundingly successful record against the Buckeyes as of late, winning all four matchups of the 2015-16 season. In fact, the last time the Badgers lost to Ohio State was during the 2014-15 regular season, when UW fell 3-4 in its final meeting of the year with the Buckeyes. This game will give Wisconsin fans a chance to see all eight of the freshman players in action for the first time this year, along with the opportunity to see a healthy Maddie Rolfes take the ice again. The junior defenseman was injured early in the 2015-16 season, having only played in the first ten games of the season. The No. 1 ranked Badgers team won’t be at home for long though, given that the team will have to spend the rest of October on the road. This weekend will be one of only four that Wisconsin will spend at home over the entire course of the first half of their 2016-17 season.Women’s hockey: Behind expat goaltender Desbiens, Badgers awarded No. 1 rankingComing off of their ninth Frozen Four appearance, high expectations are nothing new for the Wisconsin women’s hockey team and Read…The Badgers will have a quick turn-around between games this weekend too, with game one starting at 7 p.m. Friday night and the second slated for 1 p.m. the next day. With such a quick turn-around, Wisconsin will need to be at the top of its game in the early moments of Saturday’s battle to ensure a successful weekend. This weekend’s showdown in Madison should be interesting, after both teams showed their teeth to combine for 16 points scored in the opening week of play. With that kind of spectacular start to the season, there is no doubt both teams will create quality scoring opportunities. read more
ROAD safety laws in the county have ground to a halt as more and more motorists are claiming they didn’t receive fixed penalty notices in the post.Judges in the county are striking out more cases being brought by motorists who are challenging the service of the fixed penalty notices. They are currently served by ordinary post. But as the State cannot prove the notices were delivered to the motorists, gardai are no longer pursuing them.A number of motorists claimed at Letterkenny District Court today that they didn’t receive the original fixed penalty notices. One motorist told his solicitor Patsy Gallagher the first notice he received was a summons to appear in court today for non-payment of the fixed penalty fine. When asked by Judge Paul Kelly if he wished to question the motorist, Inspector Michael Harrison remarked: “I’m not going to embarrass myself.”As the law stands – written by civil servants at the Department of Transport – the loophole essentially remains in place.A second man, who didn’t have a solicitor, and who was accused of driving at 72km/hr in a 60km/hr zone, also said he didn’t receive a fixed penalty notice. The driver gave evidence on this and Judge Kelly was forced to strike out the case.Four out of five drivers summonsed to court over penalty points offences are escaping conviction, new figures show.Almost 150,000 drivers who were ordered to appear in court nationally over the past two years were not convicted for reasons including not being served with a summons at the correct address, or claiming to have never received a fixed-charge notice in the post.Tommy Broughan TD said it was “astonishing” a majority of drivers involved in speeding and other offences, and ordered to appear in court, were avoiding conviction.Gardai are furious with law-makers, saying their hands have been tied by ‘poor legislation’ and point to the fact that An Post has the best letter delivery letter in the world.Road safety group PARC wants all future notices delivered by registered post – and adding the extra €6.40 cost of that to the fines. But so far Minister Pascal O Donohoe has done nothing about it.ROAD SAFETY LAWS GRIND TO HALT AS MORE DONEGAL SPEEDING CASES DISMISSED was last modified: October 19th, 2015 by John2Share this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:donegalGardaigosafe vansPARCspeeding read more
